THE COUNTDOWN CONTINUES. 4 DAYS TO GLORY!!!
Yes, I'm a couple of days behind... and since most of these emails go to your office, this might be my last chance to make the pitch. Well here it is: JOIN TEAM 33. You have a chance to help millions of Americans challenged by arthritis and over 100 related diseases. When I started this little project, I set a goal based on an arbitrary number - $3300. I didn't really think we'd get anywhere close to it. But here we are on the cusp of passing it. It's been incredibly heartwarming and exhilarating to see all this support you've given. THANK YOU SO MUCH. And there is still time. We're just a little bit away from the magic goal. You can be the one to push us over the line. And if you are looking for something fun to do on Saturday morning, come on out to Atlantic Station and walk with us. We'll have a tent there. There'll be music, games, kids, dogs, a Hall of Fame baseball player and, oh yes, cake. This is your chance at IMMORTALITY. Click the link down at the bottom.
FOUR.
Just about everything comes in packs of 4. The Fab Four. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The Four Food Groups. Four Seasons. Four cardinal directions. Four Gospels. You know all about that.
Let's instead talk about some 4s that I did not know about until today:
Did you know that elephants were the only animals on earth with four knees?
Did you know that in many Asian languages, the number 4 sounds just like the word for "death" and therefore it's considered unlucky? In Asia, tall buildings even skip the 4th floor and 40 through 49th floors (like western buildings do for the 13th floor). Even major corporations take this into account by skipping the number four in their product lines? No Microsoft Windows 4 (it was Windows 95). No Nokia series 4 phones.
Did you know, or at least does it now occur to you, that the video game Tetris is so named because each of the pieces that fall down have 4 blocks (tetra- is the prefix for four in Greek)?
Did you know that there is actually a World Championship Tournament of Four Square? For adults! Seriously!
Did you know what Reba McEntire, Al Gore, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, David Letterman, Johnny Cash, the guy who created Garfield, and Herschel Walker have in common? They're all alumni of the agricultural youth club 4-H.
Did you know that the Continental Congress didn't actually vote for independence on July 4th? It was actually 2 days earlier that a resolution of independence passed. The Declaration of Independence was drafted and signed over the next 2 days. Even John Adams wrote, contemporaneously, that Americans would celebrate July 2nd for generations.
Did you know whether Wrangler Jeans will be retiring Brett Favre's number 4 t-shirt that he wears in commercials? I've always wondered if Favre always wears a shirt with his jersey number on it when hanging out with the boys and playing a little mud football. Also: I think Brett Favre is annoying. (Other number 4s: Bobby Orr, Lou Gehrig).
Anyway, we're down to the Final Four numbers. Now is the time for you to have your "One Shining Moment." Give to TEAM 33 and help push us past our goal. This is your chance to beat the buzzer (my lord I'm groaning at my own writing tonight... ugh). JUST DO IT! JOIN US ON SATURDAY. Bring your friends and family, including dogs. If you can't come, you can still join TEAM 33 or contribute in any way you'd like. AND YOU CAN SPREAD THE WORD! For more information on joining TEAM 33 or contributing, please follow the link below:
